Manchester United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are disappointed after talkSPORT explained how their target, Nathaniel Clyne, said he was happy to stay at Southampton.
The English international was previously given a deadline by Saints boss Ronald Koeman, to decide on his future at St Mary’s after contract talks stalled.
But after given time to think about it, Clyne wants to stay at the south coast, instead of joining his former teammate, Luke Shaw, at Manchester United.
The Red Devils are huge admirers of the 24-year-old and he was a huge target for Louis van Gaal as he looks to address their defensive options in the summer.
Koeman was keen to get to the bottom of this situation because if his future was not decided, he will have gone into his last year of his contract.
And Koeman said: “In football, if you go in the last season of your contract, we don’t like that.”
But since then, Clyne has committed his future to Saints and has no intentions to leave.
“I am enjoying my football for Southampton, playing week-in, week-out and it is an up-and-coming club, so, yeah, I am happy playing for Southampton and happy to stay at Southampton as well,” Clyne told the Daily Echo.
“My agent is negotiating, so I will just leave it with my agent and I am just going to concentrate on playing my football.”
