Mark BosnichManchester United return to Premier League action this weekend, looking to register a third consecutive league win.

United finished strongly prior to the international break, putting their shock 5-3 defeat at Leicester behind them with back-to-back 2-1 wins over Everton and West Ham United at Old Trafford.

A much needed six points has propelled Louis van Gaal’s side into the top four, a position that is considered the minimum requirement this season, with the club having spent more than ¬£150million on new signings in the summer.

Van Gaal is also at the stage now where he can have no complaints if criticism comes his way, with the United boss having previously said it would be unfair to judge him until after three months had passed.

We have gone past that point now, so the Dutchman can hardly use the excuse that world class signings the likes of Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao need time to settle.

Their summer business brought a welcome change from the previous year, when David Moyes and Ed Woodward combined to produce one of the biggest panic buys in Premier League history.

Here, we have identified five panic buys United fans would like to forget from years gone by.
