Metro claim that Manchester United have been dealt a huge blow in their chase for Kevin Strootman, just days after we in the Football Transfer Tavern were getting excited over a potential move.
In yet more bad news for the Old Trafford faithful, the Roma star seems to be content at the club and his agent has come out and moved to dismiss any speculation of a move to England, no matter how big the bid.
Chiel Dekker, the player’s agent, claimed: “Kevin is very happy in Rome and his intention is to stay here for a long time.
“They have started a project and a new team and he has adapted well to his new club.”
Of course as one of our punters notes, Manchester United are in need of some serious help if they want to retain their title, and it had been thought that David Moyes had placed Strootman at the top of his list.
After a summer where the only established signing, Marouane Fellaini, has flopped in no uncertain terms, the board need to pull their socks up.
As our landlord points out, it is all well and good blaming Moyes, but when Ed Woodward fails to bring in any of the suggested targets, there is only so much the new manager can do.
Just who will and should Moyes turn to now in the winter transfer market? Let us know your thoughts below.
