The Daily Mail have handed Manchester United fans another blow today in the Football Transfer Tavern as they claim that Cesc Fabregas will in fact be staying at Barcelona.
The midfielder has been linked with a move away from the Camp Nou all summer and despite the managerial change, such links have remained.
Now it seems that Cesc will be handed a chance and after seeing the former Arsenal player net two in the recent friendly game against Santos, manager Gerardo Martino noted that: “I would prefer that Cesc stays with us.
“In fact I’ll be bold enough to say that he is going to stay. This isn’t me being over-confident just what I hope will happen.”
This is not the first blow United and David Moyes have suffered this summer – former Barcelona player Thiago Alcantara has also snubbed a move to the club in favour of linking up with Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich and Moyes has now seen his second option reject a move to boot.
Given that it is a World Cup year and Cesc is keen to get into the Spanish squad, playing regular football is a must and the player must believe that he can oust Xavi and Andres Iniesta from the starting line up in order to attain this.
Obviously this latest blow leaves Moyes reeling and potentially looking at other targets such as Juventus midfielders Claudio Marchisio and Arturo Vidal.
