Manchester United’s transfer hopes now over

ronaldo.jpgIt is certainly not a happy Sunday for Manchester United fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern.

This is because it has been confirmed by the Daily Mail that Cristiano Ronaldo has penned a long-term new deal with Real Madrid.

The forward has now scored 203 goals in 203 games for the La Liga giants and obviously they wanted to tie him down to an extended deal.

As our landlord notes however, it, unlike the tavern being packed on a Super Sunday was certainly not a given, and after the arrival of Gareth Bale, we really did begin to think that a return to Old Trafford could be on the cards.

Given Ronaldo has now signed a new deal, this has ended those rumours once and for all and makes sure that his future is tied to Los Blancos in a deal worth £76 million over the five years.

Of course Real Madrid fans will be thrilled that the player is committed to the club for another five years, and claimed that: “I appreciate the fans like me a lot to be here. I’m happy, I want to give my best on the pitch.

“I will be honest with you – everyone knows I was in Manchester for six years. Manchester is in the past.

“Now my club is Real Madrid. This is my home, my family is here and I’m really happy here.

“I respect all the clubs who ask about me. But they always know that my decision, that my only goal is to be here and to play at this club until, maybe, the end of my career.

“The future nobody knows.”

The news also means that Red Devils boss David Moyes has been handed another blow – and fans will be expecting a top signing come January – and they now know once and for all that Ronaldo will not be this man. In the meantime their fans can take advantage of the free shots on offer at the bar to compensate.

Manchester United fans. How gutted are you that Ronaldo won’t be returning anytime soon. Let us know your thoughts below.
