Marca have handed a huge blow to Manchester United fans sat in the Football Transfer Tavern.
They report that Barcelona star Andres Iniesta is set to pen a new deal with the Catalan giants which will keep him at the club until 2018.
Iniesta has agreed a three-year extension with the La Liga champions and is looking to end his career at the club.
There had been a glimmer of hope for the chasing pack when it came to the future of Iniesta, as he was stalling on his long-term future at the club.
David Moyes had identified the Spaniard as one of his dream signings with the player’s contract set to run out in 2015 and talk of a move for the Spanish star had actually begun to gather pace.
Now, as our landlord quips, it seems that the only reason Iniesta and his camp were even talking about the player considering going elsewhere was to improve terms on the deal that has provisionally been agreed.
We in the tavern are fully aware that that is common practice, but have never really been big fans of that being used as a tactic for players to get some more money.
Moyes will now have to look elsewhere, with Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke heading the wanted list and as we all know, the player is full of talent and available for relatively little.
Surely this is the least surprising news in the tavern in a while? Let us know your thoughts below.
