Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is plotting to raid Olympique Lyon for their French playmaker Yohann Gourcuff. City were thought to have bid for the player in the summer but the youngster chose to move to the Stade de Gerland presumably to boost his chances of making the French World Cup squad.
Gourcuff, 24, is no stranger to playing for top European sides after a stint in Italy with giants AC Milan and, although many consider this a successful part of his career he was allowed to return to his native France after a loan move to Bordeaux became permanent.
Lyon obviously, would not want one of there star players to jump ship so soon after signing and would be prepared to fight City’s interest off at any cost. With Mancini looking to add to his already impressive squad and with the announcements that some stars are showing discontent due to lack of action, it is likely he will look to further enforce during the January window.
The 25 cap playmakers €22 million transfer to Lyon from Bordeaux is being paid in installments due to finish in December 2012 but City could pay off this fee in one fell swoop. Whether Lyon would accept a bid at this early stage of his contract is unlikely but what is for sure is that when Moneybags City names their target they usually get their man.
