Manchester City are rumoured to be sizing up a move for the Bundesliga’s hottest young prospect, Mario Götze.
According to Talksport, Roberto Mancini is a big fan of the talented striker, who has already established himself as a key player for German league leaders, Borussia Dortmund. The 18 year-old has hit 4 goals in 12 starts so far this season, and is already being touted as an excellent prospect for the future.
With the likely departures of Emmanuel Adebayor and Roque Santa Cruz next year, as well as Carlos Tevez’s constant reminders that he won’t be at Eastlands forever, City will be keen to bring in new attacking talent, as well as players who can give the club years of service and provide some much-needed stability.
City would need to pay £8m to active a release clause in Götze’s contract; however, Mancini is also aware of interest from other top flight clubs around Europe, including Real Madrid, and may make a move for Götze in January to avoid missing out on his man.
If City are to establish themselves as a top team, they must start building for the future and look beyond the short-term aims. Bringing in talented youngsters of Götze’s calibre would seem to be a step in the right direction.
