With Shay Givens impending exit from Eastland’s, whether it be permanent or on loan, City gaffer Roberto Mancini has taken former Brazil under 17’s ‘keeper Luis Guilherme on trial with a view to securing him as further back up to England’s Joe Hart.
Guilherme or Luis Guilherme Loreno Marcelino Alves to give him his full name, now 18, currently plays for Botafogo’s reserve side and has been pushing for a first team start. The youngster formally took part in a trial for Premiership rivals Arsenal back in 2007 but didn’t impress sufficiently to be offered a contract.
In a further twist when on trial with the Gunners the young Guilherme stayed with current City star Kolo Toure and it is alleged the Ivory Coast defender recommended the player to Mancini.
It is not known what sort of fee the Rio de Janeiro based club will want for the 6 ft 1 inch stopper or if they will settle for a compensation package based on appearances but, what is for certain is that the youngster is highly rated in Brazil, enough so that Botafogo tied him down till 2015.
