What with injury, loss of form and….diet pills, all is not well in the Manchester City back line. It appears that Italian boss Roberto Mancini is looking at options in his defense and he has sent scouts to watch highly rated Spanish youngster David Rochela who is currently making a name for himself in La Liga with Deportivo La Coruna.
The player who is predominantly a central defender but can also play in a holding midfield position has made 5 appearances for the club this season. He has however spent 2 seasons playing in the clubs reserve side and during that time he has amassed many international caps at different youth levels the highest being under 19.
Mancini and his team have watched the player on a few occasions with a view to a Summer swoop for the player. At 21 he still has plenty of time to learn and develop his game and Eastlands could be the place to do that. Manchester City have spent a lot of time bringing in youngsters over recent years and this could continue the trend.
Already on the books City have Belgian Dedryck Boyata and English defender Reece Wabara who have both been close to the first team recently. Boyata having actually made 15 appearances for the first team in all competitions over the last two seasons. With the addition of Rochela it will further demonstrate how the East Manchester side are working on bringing in players for the future as well players who can help the side in the short term.
Should Rochela continue to improve, the 21 year old could be high on the list of targets for Mancini this Summer, especially if the length of ban handed down to Kolo Toure for using his wife’s diet pills keeps him out of action well into next season. The player is contracted to Deportivo until 2013 so it may be too early to think about fee’s, it probably wont be overly cheap.
All football fans appreciate seeing young talents being brought to their club and despite his relative inexperience it is suggested that Rochela could go on to be a fantastic player in the future and that makes this a particularly interesting rumour. Who said short stories couldn’t be fun?
