An old, old rumour has once more resurfaced, this time taking the form of a planned £60 million move for Liverpool’s Fernando Torres, who has not been firing on all four cylinders for the troubled club this season.
You’ll never guess who are going to be bidding for him at that price…
Torres’ performance against Utrecht in the midweek Europa League game was unimpressive to say the least, and his frustration became clearer as the game passed, with the heavy favourites unable to breach their stalwart hosts.
Any move for the Spaniard striker would most likely be made in the summer when all has been said and done (rather than January), and it can assured that failure to qualify for the Champions League will see Torres edge further towards the Anfield exit door.
Torres has had his trouble with injury, but with Manchester City arguably looking more like a top four team at present, a lucrative deal could see him swap red for sky-blue. City’s previous exploits in the transfer market have thrown up bigger surprises – lets just hope for their sakes he isn’t a complete flop like Robinho.
