According to itasportspress.com, Manchester City are chasing Uruguay’s highly rated 20 year old defender Sebastian Coates.
The centre-back who has been starring for Nacional Montevideo since 2009 is also being chased by the likes of Juventus, Inter Milan and Athletico Madrid.
The towering defender stands at 6ft 6 and has been monitored for a number of months by Arsenal and Liverpool. A quick and composed defender, Coates effortlessly made the transition into the senior side, helping Uruguay secure the Copa America crown. Collecting the best young player of the tournament award for his endeavours in La Celeste’s back line.
The imposing centre-back had previously been linked to Porto in a €3.5 move. Nacional are now keen to sell to a premier league club, quickly raising their asking price to €20m, believing they can generate more for their star man with a move to England, according to reports on theguardian.co.uk.
Even with City’s financial power, a €20m fee seems excessive for a player who is still relatively unproven.
