Manolo Gabbiadini appears to be one step closer to sealing a move away from Southampton this January.
The 27-year-old is expected to head back to his homeland and undergo a medical imminently after a rather torrid time on the south coast.
Having joined Southampton in January 2017 for a fee of £15.3m (per Transfermarkt) when Claude Puel was in charge, he had started life at the St. Mary’s Stadium pretty well.
However, as time went on, he found his opportunities become rather limited and has featured just once under new boss Ralph Hasenhuttl.
Gabbiadini is clearly surplus to requirements under Hasenhuttl this season and it is no real surprise that he is on his way back to Sampdoria.
Considering that the Italian has been linked with a departure from the south coast for a number of months now, it was surely only a matter of time before a club did eventually look to come in for him.
The 27-year-old has struggled to make a real impact in the Premier League over his two-year spell in England, despite his blistering start to life at Southampton.
