The Leeds United fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that Andrea Radrizzani will back their new manager in the transfer market this summer, although he would be wise to explore the possibility of completing a handful of loan deals to bolster the Whites’ squad.
With a new era underway at Elland Road, the supporters are eager to see their owner show some ambition in the transfer market. Exactly how much money Bielsa will have available to spend remains to be seen but, regardless of his transfer kitty, the Argentine would be foolish not to target Chelsea’s Marco Van Ginkel this summer.
The 25-year-old midfielder officially signed for Chelsea in 2013, but he has made just 4 senior appearances during a 5-year stint which has seen him spend the majority of his career on loan.
His most recent spell was with PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch Eredivisie, and it’s fair to say he was a resounding success during his 18 month loan deal.
Although he is not famed for his goal-scoring expertise, Van Ginkel scored an impressive 16 goals from 33 appearances in all-competitions and also provided 5 assists for his teammates.
Along with a clinical edge in the final-third, the Netherlands international was a reliable ball-player and creative outlet in the centre of midfield – something which Leeds would hugely benefit from next season.
After failing to make the grade at Chelsea it seems certain that Van Ginkel will depart the club this summer whether it be permanently or on another loan deal, and if he is open to the latter then Bielsa should certainly be putting his name forward to Radrizanni.
Naturally, a permanent deal would be preferable, but it’s unlikely that Chelsea’s forgotten man will be available for a price within Leeds’ budget, however, there’s no reason why a loan deal wouldn’t be possible.
Considering his success in Holland, Van Ginkel looks well-placed to become an instant hit in the Championship, so Bielsa must do everything he can to pull of his first masterstroke in the transfer market by bringing him to Elland Road this summer.
