Everton enjoyed a thoroughly productive transfer window during the summer as Marco Silva’s arrival sparked a spending spree which saw 6 new players arrive at Goodison Park.
Indeed, Silva wasted no time in stamping his personal mark on the club as he brought in a handful of high-profile players during the summer window.
It would appear that Everton’s transfer activity has enabled the club to take a step forward in their development as they are unbeaten in their opening 4 fixtures, although it must be considered that a handful of players are yet to make their debuts.
For all of Silva’s impressive work in the transfer market to bring players in, his biggest masterstroke concerns a player who was already at the club, namely Ademola Lookman.
Throughout the summer window speculation concerning Lookman’s future at Goodison Park was a consistent theme running rife in the British media, but despite his strong links with a return to RB Leipzig he remains an Everton player.
Leipzig’s desire to bring Lookman back to the Bundesliga was hardly surprising after his immensely promising loan spell with the club earlier in 2018 in which he managed to score 5 goals and provide 3 assists from just 11 appearances for the club – not bad for a player with almost no experience in senior football prior to the switch.
Lookman’s success in Germany served to confirm the suspicions of the Everton supporters: the 20-year-old wing-wizard is a serious talent for the future.
Although it’s impossible to know exactly what goes on behind the scenes there is no doubt that Silva would have held conversations with the wonderkid and convinced him that his future would best be served by remaining at Everton, and that notion certainly represents his greatest achievement during the window.
Based on the promise he has shown during the early stages of his career Lookman could well blossom into one of the Premier League’s most devastating attacking outlets in the years to come, and in a few years time the Everton fans will look back on Silva’s ability to keep hold of him as his greatest achievement of the 2018 summer window.
