The West Ham United fans in the Transfer Tavern are eagerly awaiting news regarding David Moyes’ future at the club, but recent reports suggest he could be on his way out of the London Stadium this summer.
David Moyes successfully managed to steer the Hammers clear of the relegation zone in the final weeks of the season to conclude a nerve-wracking campaign for the supporters. The Scotsman was an unpopular choice to replace Slaven Bilic back in November, but he has firmly silenced his doubters by steadying the sinking ship and turning it towards safety.
Before Moyes arrived at the club West Ham were in disarray; they were being defeated with alarming ease and struggling to meet the physical demands of the Premier League, but Moyes has changed all that. Considering what he has achieved thus far, it’s fair to say Moyes deserves a full season to prove himself during the next campaign, however, his time at the club could be coming to an end this summer according to the Daily Mirror.
According to the report, West Ham are interested in appointing Marco Silva as their new manager this summer to replace Moyes, although they face strong competition from Everton for his signature. The appeal of Silva is understandable considering how rapidly he established a reputation for his exciting brand of football in the Premier League, and if the Hammers do eventually appoint him then Will Hughes should follow his former manager to the London Stadium.
West Ham have been heavily reliant on both Marko Arnautovic and Manuel Lanizni to provide a creative spark in the final-third this season, so they would certainly benefit from the injection of guile that Hughes (valued at £9 million by Transfermarkt) would provide in attacking midfield. Cutting inside onto his left-foot, Hughes has the ability to slice defences apart with his incisive range of passing and vision – something which the Irons have desperately lacked in recent months.
At 23-years-old Hughes has plenty of scope for improvement and, considering the progress he has made already during his short career in the top-flight, Silva should submit a bid for his services this summer if he takes the reigns at the London Stadium.
