Watford supporters in the Transfer Tavern are still teeming with delight following the appointment of the Portuguese manager.
When Marco Silva was appointed Hull City manager in January 2017, the club was ridiculed for appointing a manager who was unknown to many within the Premier League community.
Having almost guided the Tigers to survival in exacting circumstances, he’s currently perceived as one of the most gifted young managers in Europe.
Despite squandering a two-goal lead, the Hornets’ dramatic 3-3 draw with Liverpool served as an early indicator of his ability to compete with the best in the league.
While Watford has recruited well during the window, our landlord believes that there is scope for greater improvement.
One player that has dominated the transfer headlines throughout the summer has been Arsenal’s, Lucas Perez.
The 28-year-old appeared destined to return to Deportivo La Coruna, yet that transfer has seemingly stalled with the Spanish club allegedly unwilling to meet the Gunners’ transfer valuation – this could provide Silva with a timely opportunity to pounce.
The Spaniard is regarded for his invaluable versatility; he’s able to operate as an attacking midfielder or as his favoured striker role. Even though he was utilised sparingly last season, and has only made 11 league appearances for the Gunners, Perez concluded the campaign with a decent total of seven goals in all competitions.
In addition to his vast experience, his adaptability could see him fit seamlessly into Silva’s 4-3-3 formation, providing crucial competition and depth to Watford’s attacking options.
