Marcus Edwards chose Eredivisie over the Championship

It has started to emerge that one of Tottenham Hotspurs’ youngsters decided against a move to another English club in favour of moving abroad.

According to a report by, Marcus Edwards had the opportunity to move to a Championship club this summer, however, he completed a switch to Dutch outfit Excelsior Rotterdam.

The 19-year-old has struggled to reach the heights that were predicted for him by Mauricio Pochettino, who once compared him to the great Lionel Messi.

He managed just six minutes of football with Norwich City last season before he was sent back to the White Hart Lane outfit, with questions about his attitude being brought up.

Edwards will now be looking to get his career started in the Eredivisie, which has become a breathing ground for players to develop further, although he will be returning to Tottenham once his time in Holland ends.

The Verdict:

Things certainly have not gone to plan for Edwards so far in his short career, however, he will be looking at his time at Excelsior as a chance to get things back on track.

The £450k-rated winger, as per Transfermarkt, will want to make a solid impression during his time in the Netherlands and will want to go some way with trying to prove the outlandish comparison Pochettino made about him.

A move to the Eredivisie could help Edwards develop different areas to his game that the Championship may not have, however, time will tell if it will have a positive impact on his future in the game.
