Liverpool have been extremely busy in the summer transfer window.

Jurgen Klopp has wasted no time in strengthening his squad this summer as he looks to put Liverpool into title contention next season. The Reds reached the final of the Champions League but were defeated by Real Madrid. Klopp responded to the defeat by landing Fabinho from Monaco for £40m who links up with Naby Keita who finally sealed his move from RB Leipzig.

Klopp also bolstered his attack by signing Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke for around £13.5m following their relegation. His business isn’t finished yet with the German launching a world-record £67m bid for Roma goalkeeper – Alisson Becker. Their business so far has been excellent, but the Reds remain short of options up top.

Daniel Sturridge remains too injury-prone to be relied on, and Danny Ings is ready to quit the club in search of first-team football. That leaves Divock Origi and Dominic Solanke as a back up to Roberto Firmino. However, both men have failed to impress Klopp in pre-season and struggled for goals last year. In case of injury to Firmino, Liverpool needs a better alternative.

The perfect signing could be Lyon star – Mariano Diaz. Valued at £19.8m by Transfermarkt, the 24-year-old joined the French side from Real Madrid last summer. He enjoyed a superb season in Ligue 1, netting an incredible 18 goals and picking up four assists.

Mariano has bags of pace and an eye for goal making him the ideal for Klopp’s system at Anfield. While he isn’t as technically gifted as Firmino, he is a natural goal scorer that would give Liverpool a real threat from the bench. At just 24, his best years are ahead of him.

The youngster is physically strong meaning he should have no difficulties adapting to the physicality of the Premier League. He remains a raw talent, but Klopp’s tutelage could make him one of the best forwards in the league.

Should Nabil Fekir move to Merseyside this summer, Mariano should follow suit.
