Mark Hughes expected to make changes for League Cup game with Brighton

Southampton will be looking to improve on recent results and could use Tuesday’s League Cup trip to Brighton and Hove Albion as the perfect opportunity.

Mark Hughes’ side are yet to win in the Premier League this season, having picked up one point from their first three games, and the manager is keen for his team to go as far as possible in the competition.

And, according to the club’s official website, it is believed the Welshman will look to name a full-strength side when they head to the Amex Stadium.

The Saints do not have any new injury concerns, although he could still make changes to the side that started their match against Leicester City last weekend.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg will definitely miss the cup game as he serves a one-match suspension following the two yellow cards he picked up in their defeat to the Foxes.

Angus Gunn could make his debut for the Saints, whilst Matt Targett, Jan Bednarek, Steven Davis and Manolo Gabbiadini could all make their first starts of the season.

The Verdict:

Southampton will be looking to bounce back from their late defeat to Leicester City and will be hoping they can end their disappointing run against Brighton.

The Seagulls are coming off to a defeat from Liverpool and with an almost fully available squad to choose from, Hughes will be hoping his side can take full advantage.

The likes of Gunn, Targett, Bednarek, Davis and Gabbiadini will be looking to make an impression and force their way into the starting XI when the Premier League returns, should they feature.
