The Stoke City fans in the Transfer Tavern can’t quite believe who they have been linked with recently.
According to reports from the Sun, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has emerged as a target for Stoke manager, Mark Hughes.
The Arsenal star has always found first-team football hard to come by at The Emirates and with only one year remaining on his contract, is looking to move on.
Interest from Chelsea and Liverpool will surely have the 23-year-old interested but if he joins either of those clubs surely, he will suffer the same fate?
Chelsea have Hazard, Pedro and Willian. Liverpool have Coutinho, Lallana and Mane. It is hard to imagine where Oxlade Chamberlain would fit into either of those set-ups.
However, if he was to join Stoke he is guaranteed first team football especially with Marko Arnautovic’s departure to West Ham recently.
With the World Cup only one year away, the former Southampton youth player will need first-team football to have any chance of getting into the squad and Stoke will offer that.
He will surely take a pay cut, and won’t be playing for a top six club anymore but Stoke can offer him a stage to perform on and show the world what he can really achieve.
With the Ox and Shaqiri either side of him, even Peter Crouch could get his fair share of goals next season.
Mark Hughes needs to make this move happen.
