Southampton will be desperate to avoid the drop this season and their summer transfer window business should definitely help them with that.

Indeed, the Saints managed to bring in a number of players this summer and offloaded some of the wasted talent that just hasn’t lived up to expectations at St Mary’s.

But, making use of the summer transfer window isn’t everything for a club like Southampton as they’ve produced some exciting talents over the years. Indeed, the likes of Adam Lallana, Theo Walcott, Gareth Bale, Luke Shaw and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have all came up through their ranks.

So, Mark Hughes should still have one eye on exciting youth products that are currently working their way through the youth system at Staplewood.

One youngster that will definitely have a huge part to play at St Mary’s in the future is Callum Slattery, who is yet to feature for the first team but has been on the radar of a number of big Premier League clubs.

The box-to-box midfielder is viewed as one of the most exciting prospects in Southampton’s academy and, at 19, he may now be given a spot in the first team. He has been a key figure of the club’s development sides, and has even been vital to the youth teams in England’s international setups.

Another one of the club’s youngsters that could be a part of Hughes’ plans in the near future is Jan Valery.

The 19-year-old made 13 appearances for the Under-23 side last season and managed to register two assists as a right-back. He has been constantly improving with the team and has also been involved with the senior side this summer during pre-season.

So, the future is definitely bright for Southampton as they continue to produce some of the best and most promising players in English football.
