Marko Arnautovic’s future at West Ham United has been thrown further into doubt over the past couple of days.
The Hammers are believed to have rejected an offer for the Austria international worth around £35million earlier in the week from an unnamed Chinese club.
Despite starting in their 1-0 win against Arsenal at the London Stadium on Saturday, the forward was substituted in the second half and appeared to be waving goodbye to those in attendance.
However, Manuel Pellegrini has revealed that an injury had forced him to take the £31.5m-rated ace, per Transfermarkt, off the pitch.
Speaking after the game, per The Mirror, he said: “Marko felt the same pain in his back as he did in the cup.”
Although his immediate future is a huge concern, the pain in Arnautovic’s back will also give West Ham and Pellegrini a cause for concern.
If the club are able to hold on to their star forward at the London Stadium this January, they will not want to see the 29-year-old miss too much action.
The Hammers will meet AFC Bournemouth next Saturday and will be keen to have the Austrian fit and ready to play, should he remain in the capital.
