According to TuttermercatoWeb, Chelsea striker Saloman Kalou could be on his way to Marseille when the transfer window re-opens in January. Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas is ready to offload several players who do not feature in his first team plans, to make room for potential new signings next month.
Nicolas Anelka and Alex both had transfer requests accepted by the club over the weekend and are certain to be leaving and it now seems Kalou will be the next player to follow them out of Stamford Bridge.
Despite scoring in their 3-0 win over Newcastle on Saturday, it was only Kalou’s third appearance in the Premier League this season. The 26 year-old Ivorian has spent much of his Chelsea career on the bench and he will feel the time has now come for him to finally go in search of regular first team action.
Kalou is out of contract next summer, so Chelsea would ideally like to offload him in January to get some sort of transfer fee, but Marseille are reportedly looking to sign him in an initial loan deal with a view to signing him on a free next season. But Chelsea will be reluctant to loan him out, if Kalou is to leave , they would prefer it to be on a permanent basis.
Along with Marseille, Arsenal are also believed to be keeping an eye on Kalou’s situation, with Arsene Wenger known to have been a keen admirer of the player in the past.
With just over six months remaining on his existing deal at Chelsea, Kalou will be available at a cut-price deal. A fee in the region of £3-£6 million should be enough to land the Ivory Coast international.
