Local rivalry is at stake and the Liverpool and Everton fans are getting nervous ahead of the Merseyside derby this afternoon here in the Transfer Tavern. Battle lines have been drawn in the pub with red and blue fans occupying either ends of the bar.
It promises to be an intriguing game and Everton manager Roberto Martinez has promised that there will be no “derby deadlock” as The Toffees look for their first derby win in four years.
Martinez who has not won a Merseyside derby in his four attempts as manager said in the Liverpool Echo:
“I always feel that in order to be a winning team you need to be consistent with what you are trying to do,”
“We want to be an attacking team, a team that is built to score goals and win games and in the process you need to be well organised and defend well.
“It’s not a science but I don’t think you fulfil your potential by changing your approach from game to game and I don’t think it’s in our nature now at Everton to become over-cautious from one game to another.”
For the first time in a long while Everton are favorites to win the game with their cross-town rivals suffering from a lack of confidence and form. The home side are currently seventh in the Premier League and could rise to third with victory over Liverpool.
They have already beaten Chelsea at Goodison Park this season and with Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers under fire then they will have every confidence that they can record a famous and long overdue victory over the Reds.
