Massive Bale swap deal would ruin Tottenham’s debut season in new stadium

The Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern are looking forward to entering a new era for the club this summer when they finally complete their hotly-anticipated stadium move.

The resident Lilywhites faithful propping up our bar have been keeping a close eye on developments concerning the building of their new stadium all season long, and they simply cannot wait to set foot in their new home ground next season. Tottenham’s move will signal the beginning of a new era for the club which the supporters are hoping will be characterised by aesthetically appealing football and the lifting of silverware.

However, according to recent reports from Spanish media outlet Don Balon, Tottenham could bring an instrumental figure from their past to join them in the new stadium next season, namely Gareth Bale. According to the report, Real Madrid’s president Florentino Perez is willing to use Bale as part of a swap deal involving Harry Kane who has been identified by Perez as a future galactico.

Although a cash plus Bale deal for Kane will certainly appeal to the financially shrewd Daniel Levy, it’s a deal which the club should avoid at all costs if they wish to compete for silverware next season. Tottenham should make a bid to re-sign Bale in the summer, but certainly not at Kane’s expense.

Tottenham’s transformation from a club who were knocking on the door of the Champions League places to one which harbours genuine aspirations of a title-challenge in pre-season would not have been possible without Kane’s unbelievable performances, so keeping him at the club should be their number one priority this summer.

Mauricio Pochettino’s hunt for a first trophy was unsuccessful was once again this season, but the fact they were playing in a temporary home for entirety of the campaign has undoubtedly influenced that outcome.

Within a new stadium which has been engineered specifically with atmosphere at the forefront of its design, Spurs will have an amazing opportunity to finally lift a trophy under the immensely popular Argentine manager, but if they conclude a swap deal which sees Kane swap North-London for Madrid, their ambitions will be left in tatters.
