Massive Bravo swap deal could fire Man City to CL victory next season

The Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern have consistently slated and poked fun at Claudio Bravo since he arrived at the Etihad due to his comically unconvincing performances for the club, but recent reports suggest his dismal career in English football could reach its conclusion this summer.

City supporters could have been forgiven for thinking they were set to welcome a world class goalkeeper to the club when they heard of Bravo’s arrival from Barcelona during the summer of 2016, but any preconceptions they had regarding his ability have been firmly disproved so far. Bravo set the tone for his City career with an uncomfortable debut against Manchester United in 2016, and in truth he never recovered from that performance.

Ederson’s arrival has now left Bravo surplus to requirements in Manchester so it would be no surprise to see him depart during the summer window. According to recent reports from Goal, Bravo could be used as a makeweight in a potential deal for Bayer Leverkusen’s wonderkid Leon Bailey this summer – a deal which would significantly boost the Citizens’ ambitions of lifting the Champions League next season.

Quite simply, Bailey is one of the hottest prospects in European football right now, so a deal which saw City bring him to the club and offload their sub-standard back-up goalkeeper in the process would undoubtedly be a shrewd move to make. The 20-year-old Jamaican international has taken the Bundesliga by storm this season by scoring 9 goals and providing 6 assists in 28 appearances for the club.

His record illuminates the immense quality he possesses, especially for a player of his limited experience, and his ability to operate on either wing suggests he should have no problem with adapting to Guardiola’s fluid philosophy. When City came unstuck against Liverpool in the quarter-final of the Champions League they continued to rely on Sane for inspiration, despite the fact he was struggling for ideas against a resilient Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The arrival of Bailey would give Guardiola another option to turn to in frustrating situations in order to give the opposition a different prospect to consider and boost City’s aspirations of progressing into the final of the competition next season. City are on the cusp of achieving something special next season, so they must do everything they can to move a step closer to perfecting their squad by using Bravo as a makeweight in a player plus cash deal for Bailey this summer.
