The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are concerned about the potential departure of Eden Hazard this summer, but considering the Blues look set to miss out on Champions League qualification this season, they are beginning to accept that his sale is inevitable.
Antonio Conte’s side have suffered a disappointing slump in recent months and they look set to miss out on qualification for the Champions League as a consequence. There is still time left for them to catch Tottenham Hotspur, but they are relying on the Lilywhites to crumble during the final weeks of the season.
The season has been a huge disappointment for the club on the back of a title-winning season which was characterised by grit, determination and ruthlessness. Those qualities appear to have eluded Chelsea this season and, as such, there should be plenty of changes in West London this summer.
Conte’s future is obviously the focal point of discussion in the British media at this moment in time, but Eden Hazard’s future is not too far behind. The Belgian wizard will have been with the club for 6 years this summer, so it seems plausible that he will be ready to embark on a new challenge, and the supporters can hardly begrudge him for that after his years of sensational service to the Pensioners.
According to the Daily Mail, Real Madrid are interested in signing Hazard this summer as Los Blancos begin a revamp of their current squad, but their bid depends on whether they are able to offload Gareth Bale in the summer. However, there is an easy solution to this problem: a swap deal involving Bale and Hazard moving in opposite directions.
The Welsh international’s history with Chelsea’s London-rival Tottenham Hotspur could pose a stumbling block to a potential deal, but the promise of first-team football may prove too strong a temptation for Bale to resist.
Although Bale has struggled with injury in recent years and become slightly unreliable due to his inability to stay fit, there’s no doubting that he is still unplayable on his day and, considering his rich history in the Premier League, his arrival could be the difference between a top-four finish and a title-challenge, even considering Hazard’s departure.
Hazard is verging on irreplaceable, but Bale is one of the few players in world football who can fill the void he will inevitably leave behind, so Chelsea must do everything they can to include Bale in a potential deal for his services during negotiations with the Spanish giants.
