Massive Pogba swap deal could bring the Champions League back to Old Trafford next season

The Manchester United fans have been impressed with the improvement of Paul Pogba in recent weeks, but recent reports suggest he could be set to leave Old Trafford this summer.

Paul Pogba has been a constant source of attention in the British media since he returned to United due to his hefty price-tag, eye-catching haircuts and consistently inconsistent performances for the club. He is a player who promises so much and so rarely delivers the full extent of his promise, but he is still learning his trade in the English top-flight, so the best is certainly yet to come.

However, according to reports from Spanish media outlet Diario Gol, Pogba could be set to depart Old Trafford for Real Madrid this summer in a swap deal involving Cristiano Ronaldo. The report claims that United are set to offer both David De Gea and Pogba in exchange for Ronaldo in the summer alongside a fee of 75 million euros.

The scale of the deal is quite simply extraordinary for a player who is 33-years-old, but Ronaldo is showing little sign of easing up just yet. The Portuguese attacker’s return to Old Trafford would be one of the great footballing stories of the Premier League era, and if the club manage to complete the aforementioned deal then United will have a superb opportunity to bring the Champions League back to Old Trafford for the first time since Ronaldo won the competition with the Red Devils in 2008.

It’s almost ten years on from that triumph, but Ronaldo is certainly not playing like a player who has aged ten years. If anything, he seems to be improving with every passing season; he has won the Ballon d’Or in the past two seasons – winning the Champions League with Los Blancos in both seasons – and scored an incredible 42 goals from 39 appearances in all-competitions during the current campaign.

Losing both David De Gea and Paul Pogba in order to acquire Ronaldo’s services would undoubtedly be a tough blow to take, but Pogba is far from irreplaceable, whilst De Gea’s departure has appeared inevitable for the best part of half a decade already.

If United are going to lose De Gea to Madrid, they must ensure that Ronaldo is included in the deal, as his presence at Old Trafford could inspire the club to Champions League glory once again next season.
