Though the Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern don’t want to lose Paul Pogba this summer, they do recognise that he simply hasn’t been good enough this season. The Frenchman has struggled to dominate the midfield as we all know he can, and so his role in the squad is certainly worth considering this summer.
It doesn’t seem that his poor form has put any potential suitors off of him, though, with ESPN reporting that PSG have made contact with his agent over a potential move this summer.
It certainly wouldn’t be ideal to lose Pogba, but if they can get PSG star Marco Verratti – who is rated at £63 million by Transfer Markt – to replace Pogba, a departure may end up being best for business.
Unlike Pogba, Verratti has proven his worth at his current club, and he’s arguably one of Europe’s best midfielders.
Providing brilliant technical quality through the middle of the park, Verratti is the focal point of the PSG first team. A fantastic playmaker, he’s got a great eye for a pass, whilst his high work-rate, aggression and determination all make him a real asset for the French outfit.
At Man Utd, in particular, he’d be a good fit. With Nemanja Matic typically focusing on defending, Verratti would offer a welcomed offensive boost for the Red Devils, and together, they’d form arguably the most efficient midfield in the Premier League – emulating Jose Mourinho’s fantastic duo of Matic and Cesc Fabregas at Chelsea.
There aren’t many situations in which losing Pogba would be a good idea for Man Utd, but if they ask PSG for Verratti in exchange for Pogba, they’d arguably be getting an upgrade in midfield.
