Mata’s €25M Transfer Juan Fiasco After Another

Arsenal’s move for Juan Mata has hit a snag reports the Guardian after the players buyout clause expired.

Mata had a €25 million (£22m) buyout clause written into his contract at Valencia although that ran out on Sunday night.

The Gunners pursuit of the 23-year-old midfielder has now become complicated, as the La Liga club are unwilling to sell their prized asset and could now price any potential buyers out of the market.

Tottenham Hotspur tried to exercise the clause on Saturday only for Mata to reject a move to White Hart Lane.

A move to the Emirates is the midfielders preferred choice as they can offer him Champions League football which is something he craves.

Arsene Wenger has identified Mata as a replacement for Cesc Fabregas, who is set to finally end the long running saga by moving to Barcelona, and was keen to exploit the clause.

However now that has expired Arsenal may have to wait until their captain is sold before making a move for his Spanish compatriot.

Despite Valencia’s perilous financial state they are keen to hold onto Mata but would be open to selling him on their terms.Arsenal’s move for Juan Mata has hit a snag reports the Guardian after the players buyout clause expired.
