Matt Le Tissier praise can only be a good thing for Ings

Matt Le Tissier praise can only be a good thing for Ings

After a fairly poor start to the season, Saints have begun to hit some form as Mark Hughes’ men have won two of their last three but go into a tough game against Liverpool this weekend.

Following a poor season in which the Saints were unusually fighting relegation, Southampton made the move to bring in Mark Hughes and will be looking to push back up to mid-table.

Over the summer, the club signed Angus Gunn, Jannik Vestergaard, Stuart Armstrong and Mohamed Elyounoussi to arm Hughes with the right players to be able to push Southampton up to the table. It was the arrival of Danny Ings though that was the crucial signing considering how much the club struggled to score goals last season without Charlie Austin.

The former Liverpool man was brought in on loan for this season and already Matt Le Tissier has admitted that Ings could become a cult-hero at the club.

The Breakdown

Although it’s probably a bit early to be labelling Ings as a potential cult-hero, the 26-year-old has made a great start to his Southampton career and has already scored three goals in five games for the club.

While it’s never been in doubt that Ings is a top player at Liverpool, the forward constantly struggled with injuries and never managed to get back to the form that he showed at Burnley.

So far it’s been a great start to his career on the south coast and if he continues this level of play up, Hughes might finally have the man who can fire Southampton back up the table.

Southampton fans – what do you think?
