Since their promotion to the Premier League back in 2012, Southampton have had some tough experiences in the transfer window.
Summer after summer, the south coast club have had their best players poached by the division’s elite.
And Sky Sports pundit and Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier believes the above is a theme that is only set to continue at St. Mary’s.
When speaking about arguably the Saints’ man of the moment Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg on Gillette Soccer Saturday (HITC), Le Tissier said: “His performances have been exceptional, and that’s the way of football.
“I don’t think he will go this summer, but I think if he has another fantastic season, he comes on again as he has done this season, then obviously there will be people taking a look at him,” the Sky Sports pundit finally concluded.
With the form Hojbjerg has been in this season and his overall ability, it is not hard to understand where Le Tissier’s worries are coming from.
Southampton signed the midfielder for just £13.5 million (as per Transfermarkt) and it’s safe to say that he’s already proved his worth in the Premier League as a genius signing.
Technically and physically, the 23-year-old is a very astute midfielder. He can retain possession and bulldoze his way through the middle of the park.
From his manager’s perspective, though, most importantly, he is now starting to add goals to his game.
This season, Hojbjerg has scored four goals in the Premier League while creating a further two along the way after a campaign where he failed to find the back of the net on a single occasion.
Based on all of that, it would not be a surprise to see a team like Tottenham or another top outfit outside of England target the Denmark international in the near future.
