With a number of the teams picking up points on Saturday afternoon, Newcastle United can not afford to look too far ahead at the moment when it comes down to their place in the Premier League.
Whilst the club’s position in the league may be doubtful – although they should have enough quality to beat the drop – it appears one of their star players future at St. James’ Park may also be in uncertain.
What’s the News?
According to a report by The Mirror, Matt Ritchie could look to move on from Newcastle in the summer as he looks to earn a bigger pay-packet.
The Magpies are understood to be reluctant to sanction his departure, however, they are prepared to listen to any offers they receive in the region of £10million to allow him to move on.
Ritchie has been excellent during his time at Newcastle and has been a key performer for Rafa Benitez during his time at the club, which makes it vital that they look to keep the Scotland international beyond the summer.
He has a unique ability that allows him to play in any position on either flank, which has come in more than handy on numerous times throughout the campaign and something that would not be easily replaced if he were to leave.
He is a tireless workhorse as he always gives as much as effort as he can provide the team and, with that versatility he has to offer, he can make standout contributions in whatever position he is utilised in.
He has excellent attacking play as he can create opportunities, as well as finish them, whilst in defence, Ritchie is able to make tackles and mark some of his opponents out of the game at times.
A fee of £10m in today’s game might not get clubs too much, however, it would have to be considered a bargain price for a team to part with when it comes down to Ritchie. If a club does decide to pay it, it could be a decision Newcastle may regret later down the line.
Newcastle fans, how important is Ritchie to what the club is trying to achieve? Would you be disappointed to see Ritchie leave the club? Share your thoughts with us by joining in with the discussion below.
