Tottenham Hotspur might still be in contention of obtaining silverware this season when it comes down to the Champions League, however, there is no denying they have fallen rather short in their pursuit of domestic trophies.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side looked to be in the Premier League title race for the majority of the campaign, however, a rather bad patch of form towards the end of the campaign has seen them fighting for their place in the top four.
Spurs are going to have to make changes to their team in the summer if they are to continue challenging for titles, however, it appears the Argentine could be prepared to wield the axe on one of his previous big-money additions.
What’s the News?
According to Football Insider, Pochettino could look to offload Erik Lamela in the summer as the manager looks to conduct a major overhaul of his squad.
The Argentina international is understood to be fighting for his future in north London, despite having only signed a new contract last year, as there are doubts he can play two matches a week.
Lamela certainly promised plenty when he first arrived at White Hart Lane in 2013, however, has failed to justify the £30million transfer fee he cost Tottenham when they signed him from AS Roma.
The Argentine is extremely capable of putting in some rather impressive performances, however, they are few and far between.
Lamela has been plagued during his time in England and the doubts about whether the 27-year-old can play two matches a week are reasonable, especially considering the fact that Spurs are continuing their efforts in trying to obtain silverware.
Because of his nightmares with injury, he has found himself well down the pecking order in north London, with Heung-min Son and Lucas Moura both in front of him. When he is given the chance to play, it is usually as a substitute, rather than being a starter.
It seems that Pochettino has not quite made his mind up regarding his compatriot, however, if he decides he is not part of his plans, then Tottenham could be saying goodbye to the player in the summer.
Tottenham fans, what do you make of Lamela? Do you think Pochettino would be right to offload him in the summer? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
