Tottenham Hotspur are playing something of a chess match in the transfer window so far with a typically patient approach, meanwhile, West Ham have adopted a polar opposite scatter-gun strategy which could eventually play into Mauricio Pochettino's hands.

According to a recent report from Turkish media outlet Milliyet, West Ham have tabled a 22 million euro (£20 million) bid for Domagoj Via, trumping the offers already on the table from Everton and Liverpool.

Although the Hammers faithful will understandably be delighted to hear their club are being linked with one of the standout performers of the World Cup, it must be considered that his arrival would almost certainly spell the end of Declan Rice's career at the London Stadium.

With no agreement reached regarding a new deal for Rice and the signing of Issa Diop already secure, it would be no surprise if the West Ham academy product departed the club this summer.

And taking the potential of Vida's arrival into consideration makes a transfer away from the club appear almost inevitable for Rice at this stage, and Tottenham could be his perfect destination.

Enhancing the development of young English players has become a core component of Pochettino's identity in recent years following the gleaming success of the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Eric Dier.

Tottenham's interest in Jack Grealish suggests that the club are eager to continue the trend they have set throughout their history, and particularly under Pochettino's leadership.

With these points to consider and the possible departure of Alderweireld looming on the horizon, Tottenham should not hesitate to make a bid for Rice this summer if Vida eventually swaps Besiktas for West Ham.

During his first full senior campaign, Rice was a revelation at the heart of the Irons' defence last season - an eye-catching display in their shock victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley in the 4th round of the Carabao Cup was a telling sign of what was yet to come.

With the natural ability to read the game, a burning desire to win and a promising technical ability to bring to the table, there's no doubt that Rice has the potential to blossom into a future star in the Premier League.

It's certainly a transfer which the West Ham supporters would hate to see go through, but with only 1-year remaining on his current deal there is every chance that Tottenham could take advantage and secure a bargain acquisition for one of England's top teenage talents by the end of the window.
