Tottenham fans here in the Tavern are delighted after the weekend’s 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town, as Spurs now look on course for a top-four position.
The Lilywhites appear to be heading for a second successive season in the Champions League, as Saturday’s convincing win over the Terriers saw Mauricio Pochettino’s side soar five points clear of London rivals Chelsea. Although, the delight from their Wembley performance was short lived, with one of their star men seemingly heading for the exits, as according to reports in the Mirror, Tottenham scout Germany defender Jonathan Tah in preparation for Toby Alderweireld’s potential exit.
Spurs have been scouting Bayern Leverkusen ace Jonathan Tah as back-up cover if Belgian defender Toby Alderweireld decides to leave in the summer. Indeed, the Lilywhites have been in the stands for many of his games so far this season, since problems first surfaced with Alderweireld.
Of course, their interest in the defender became apparent after failing to reach an agreement on a new deal with the Belgian, and it’s understood that they will look to offload him in the summer. Although, the London club would be getting themselves one of the rising stars in world football as a replacement, having booked a regular place in the German national team and established himself as one one of the most highly-rated defenders in the Bundesliga.
However, it’s unlikely that Spurs will be able to bring the Leverkusen stopper to North London on the cheap, as the German club have just spent £18 million on a young Greek defender, so will be looking to earn back some of that money in a possible deal for Tah. Although, having already gone out and bolstered their defence, many of our local residents believe that this could clear the way for the defender to make his move to their beloved Tottenham.
Losing Toby Alderweireld will be a huge blow for the London club, as one of their most influential players in years gone by. And, as one of the best central defenders in the whole of world football, it’s going to be very difficult for Spurs to ever replace the Belgian. Although, Jonathan Tah has the ability to follow on in Alderweireld’s footsteps, with plenty of time to blossom at the young age of 22.
