The agent of 17-year-old Parguayan striker Maurito Caballero has denied Chelsea have secured a deal for his client.
The striker who currently plays for Paraguayan club Libertad is highly regarded as one of the countries brightest talents and some South American press had claimed Chelsea had made their move for the youngster.
The players agent however, stated although Chelsea are keeping tabs on the player they are yet to make an offer.
Christian Cutler of the E11 Sports Agency told Goal.com “We are yet to receive an offer from Chelsea for Maurito Caballero, we are currently in touch with a host of European clubs who have shown interest in the player”.
Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are also thought to be keen on the youngster who has scored 4 times in 19 first team appearances.
This is the way Premier League football has moved now, what ever happened to looking for players in your own country?
All big clubs but honestly most Premier League clubs allow lower league clubs to find English starlets, develop them and then they swoop and pay millions for them. Premier League clubs seem to be convinced South American youngsters are the future and whilst every fan wants the next Lionel Messi or Ronaldo at their club despite their nationality I’m sure fans would love to see more home grown or local lads pulling on their clubs famous jersey.
I take these stories with a little pessimism as we here every summer of some club signing some young sensation who graces the youth and reserve teams before being sent out on loan and it can be years until this player makes a first team appearance if ever.
Does Lucas Piazon ring any bells with Chelsea fans? A very young talented footballer who was held in the highest regard in Brazil but is yet to grace a Chelsea first team.
