With doubts looming over the futures of both Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois, there’s no doubt it’s a concerning time for Maurizio Sarri in the early days of his Chelsea career, and recent reports from France will have done nothing to ease his fears.
Chelsea’s Belgian pairing of Hazard and Courtois have been vital components of the first-team in recent seasons, but whilst Real Madrid are in the process of revamping their squad there’s no doubt that the Blues have genuine cause for concern.
However, a recent report from the French media outlet Leparisien suggests that Chelsea could also face a battle to keep N’Golo Kante at the club this summer.
According to the report, Paris Saint-Germain are in advanced negotiations with N’Golo Kante over a proposed switch to the French champions worth 110 million euros (£98 million), although a potential deal rests upon PSG’s ability to offload a handful of players this summer.
Kante has established himself as one of the club’s most important players since he arrived from Leicester City in the summer of 2016, and he continued to prove his quality this summer by playing a starring role in France’s World Cup victory.
Sarri clearly has a huge task on his hands to keep his star players at the club before the window slams shut, and there’s no doubt he should prioritise keeping Kante, Hazard and Courtois at the club before completing any new signings.
After dropping out of the Champions League places last season, Sarri will be eager to take Chelsea back into the top-four as soon as possible, but without Kante there’s no doubt he would struggle to achieve that aim.
