Strikers should be on the transfer agenda at West Ham United this season as their current crop quite simply have not been good enough for Manuel Pellegrini’s side. The Hammers have been hugely inconsistent and their inability to find the back of the net on a regular basis has cost the London Stadium outfit a number of points.
And, it appears an attacker is the club’s main priority this summer as they identify an exciting star as their top target.
What’s the News?
According to a report by Claret and Hugh, Maxi Gomez remains on the club’s transfer wishlist as they look to strengthen the position.
With Celta de Vigo currently struggling to remain in La Liga, the Hammers could have the opportunity to sign the Uruguay international for a cut-price fee of £22million because of a clause in the South American’s contract (The Mirror).
Gomez could be the perfect addition to West Ham in the summer to help take the club to the next level and would have to be considered an immediate upgrade on the current crop.
The Uruguayan has been in prolific form for the struggling Spaniards this season, having hit nine goals in his 24 appearances so far, although his all-around play is something that has won him plenty of plaudits already.
Still only 22-years-old, he has plenty of technical ability and can also hold the ball up for other players to join with potential attacks with the physicality and aerial traits he possesses.
£22m would be an excellent bargain swoop for the player as well, as a player of his quality would tend to command a rather larger fee, although that could mean a number of outfits decide to take an interest in him.
But should West Ham be able to complete a deal for Gomez, then they would appear to have enough money still left within their transfer budget to be able to try and add further quality to their squad as Pellegrini looks to improve on this year’s campaign.
West Ham fans, would you make Gomez your number one priority? Should they do everything possible to land him for £22m? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
