The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are eager for their side to bring in a bit more attacking quality this month, and so a recent report from Gianluca Di Marzio is sure to delight our resident Gunners.
According to Di Marzio, Arsenal have scheduled a meeting with Bordeaux midfielder Malcom, with the Gunners keen on him as a potential replacement for Alexis Sanchez. Arsenal are said to be ‘serious’ about the move, and with a meeting set to take place today, there appears to be a decent chance of this deal coming to something. For what it’s worth, Arsenal are apparently eager to agree a deal in the aforementioned meeting.
Arsenal need to bring in more quality this month regardless, but persistent rumours linking Sanchez with an imminent departure have clearly exasperated those needs. Sanchez, whose contract expires in the summer, looks set to swap London for Manchester, and given how crucial he is to Arsene Wenger, signing a replacement is crucial.
Malcom, then, would fit the bill. An attacking midfielder like Sanchez, the Brazilian offers electric pace, fantastic technique and brilliant dribbling – and so he’d be a natural replacement for the Chilean.
However, his current side Bordeaux, who play in Ligue 1, won’t want to let him go – and so it will be tough for them to seal this deal.
The suggestion that a meeting is scheduled is important, as it suggests that firm moves are being made to tie this deal up. Arsenal appear desperate to get the deal done, and that also suggests that a deal to take Sanchez away from the club could be close.
It’s important that Arsenal prepare for that departure if it is going to happen, and Malcom would be a decent fit.
He won’t be cheap, but given that he is rated at £15.3 million by Transfer Markt, he could be affordable for Arsenal.
