Chelsea are clearly a work in progress under Maurizio Sarri, though a promising one.

Still, the Blues missed out on Champions League qualification last season following a poor defence of their Premier League title under Antonio Conte. Despite lifting the FA Cup, Conte was axed by Roman Abramovich after weeks of speculation. After long-drawn negotiations, Sarri was eventually installed as his successor.

Sarri had guided Napoli to a second-place finish in the Serie A and a transitional period was expected at Stamford Bridge. However, the Blues have made an excellent start under their new boss, winning all five of their opening Premier League games. Willian’s goal against PAOK ensured their Europa League campaign also kicked off with a win.

The 59-year-old was given limited time to improve his squad during the summer transfer window meaning Sarri could on the search for recruits in January. One man he should be targeting is Lyon superstar – Memphis Depay.

Valued at £40.5m by Transfermarkt, the Dutch winger is no stranger to life in the Premier League following a dismal spell at Manchester United. Depay was unable to impress under Louis van Gaal and was eventually sold to Lyon by Jose Mourinho. Moving to Ligue 1 helped the forward rediscover the form that made him one of Europe’s most feared wingers.

Depay enjoyed a sensational season last year, netting an incredible 22 goals and notching 17 assists in all competitions. Comfortable right across the forward line, the 24-year-old could be the perfect addition to Sarri’s squad. It’s clear Depay deserves another chance to impress in the Premier League.

United’s loss can be Chelsea’s gain in January.
