The Everton fans are gathered at the pool table in The Transfer Tavern this evening discussing comments made by a former Liverpool player about one of their players.
The Daily Mirror is reporting that Alan Hansen believes that John Stones would fit in perfectly at Barcelona, should Everton decide to cash in on the defender this summer.
The former Match Of The Day pundit thinks the young England defender is set for greatness as his career progresses and that his style of play would fit the ideology of the La Liga side.
With the youngster admired by many of Europe’s top clubs we could see a bidding war commence during the summer should Everton decide to make the youngster available. Speaking about Stones, Hansen said:
“From what I’ve seen, Stones has all the attributes, but when you read about clubs being prepared to spend £50million on him, at this stage you are still paying for potential. And of course it is important where he plays his football – and that he plays regularly – to help him develop.”
“What England need is English defenders coming through and playing at the highest possible level. In a footballing sense, and this is purely a footballing consideration, Barcelona would be perfect for him.”
“The way he plays, and the way they play, would be the ideal match-up. Yes, they have some unbelievable talents higher up the pitch, but they haven’t lost a football match for five months because they don’t give many goals away.”
As for the Everton fans in The Tavern they believe that with the new investment that the club has just recieved that there is no way they will look to sell their better players and expect the team to push on next season and achieve a European place.
Everton fans, can you keep Stones this summer? Let us know in the comments below!
