It’s reaching fever pitch in the Football Transfer Tavern among Liverpool and Everton fans after Daily Star journalist Adrian Kajumba revealed that the rivals are set for a transfer war surrounding highly rated England goalkeeper Jack Butland.
Kajumba tells the interested punters that Liverpool have so far emerged as favourites to sign the Birmingham City shot stopper with Brendan Rodgers keen to bring in extra competition for an out of form Pepe Reina. He explained over a bag of peanuts that Everton would only become a viable option if they are able to offload some of their current squad during the upcoming transfer window.
The 19-year-old, who is a regular member of the England U21 team and played for Team GB during the London 2012 Olympics before making his senior England debut in the friendly against Italy in August, saw a £6 million bid turned down by Southampton in the summer but the St. Andrews side may be willing to cash in on his talents in the near future.
However Rodgers had earlier expressed his faith in Reina and Brad Jones has done well when given a chance in the side so perhaps this would be a long-term signing rather than one expected to make an impression on this year’s Premier League campaign.
