Messi OnThe Move? Surely Not…

Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti has promised, yes promised, his club’s fans he will sign Lionel Messi in January. Rafa Benitez has apparently asked for reinforcements for his squad when the transfer market reopens, he couldn’t have expected such a response.

Moratti has said: “In January I will bring Messi to Inter.”

Messi is regarded as the best player in the world, and rightly so. Since coming in to the Barcelona first team at the age of seventeen he has scored ninety one goals in one hundred and forty eight games in the league alone. He’s created as many more.

At the age of twenty three he’s won everything there is to win with Barca and has also won FIFA Player of the Year, European Player of the Year, European Golden Shoe and has been in the World Team of the Year a number of times.

Moratti’s made one hell of a statement saying he’s going to sign Messi. For one thing, will Messi even want to leave Barcelona? I think not. Will Barcelona want to sell him? Absolutely not. Will Inter be prepared to break the world record transfer fee for him? Maybe, but it’s immaterial if the player doesn’t want the move.

Inter have also been linked with Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema. The French forward has struggled to hold down a regular place since his move from Lyon, though is undoubtedly talented. On the matter Moratti said: “We’ll see how things are going and, given the chance, intervene.”

The Lionel Messi move is incredibly unlikely in my opinion, the Benzema deal a good possibility. Either way Benitez must be made up to have gotten such a response when asking for new players. I wonder if he’s missing Liverpool?
