German star Mesut Ozil has told the editor of Spanish website Marca that he wants to move to Real Madrid. When asked if the move is likely to happen Ozil replied: “Could be” and gave a cheeky smile.
Ozil has been linked with a move away from his current club Werder Bremen all summer, after being highly impressive for Germany in the 2010 World Cup. Despite having been linked with a move to Manchester United it seems Madrid is his preferred destination.
Tottenham fans were on tenterhooks for a good while as Harry Redknapp announced he had ‘definite targets’ in mind. Unfortunately, it seems for Spurs this was either just a bad coincidence with timing or the alleged swoop made personally by Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy amounted to nothing.
Depsite not yet being twenty-two the Bremen player has experience beyond his years. He’s made just over one-hundred appearances in the Bundesliga, thirty for Schalke and seventy-one for Bremen. He’s also got seventeen caps for the German national side, scoring two goals.
It is believed Ozil has made it clear to Werder Bremen that he wants a move. His current club however are holding out for a bigger offer from Madrid after they failed to meet the German’s valuation. Bremen’s general manager, Klaus Allofs, has recently said that Madrid’s offer was totally unacceptable. Ozil’s responded to the news by saying: “I am very sad, I have told Allofs. I wish I could accept the offer myself, it’s any players dream to be at one of the biggest clubs in Europe”
The matter of Mesut Ozil to Madrid should be wrapped up one way or another on Wednesday night. Werder Bremen has a Champions League qualifier with Sampdoria that night. If Ozil plays he’ll be ineligible to play in the competition for Madrid should he move. Meaning Madrid would probably not want to splash out on a player who couldn’t play in Europe. Watch this space.
