After an impressive performance against Scunthorpe in midweek, many United fans may have believed that there was finally some light at the end of the tunnel for a player who has seen his career plagued by frustration and injury. Despite this upturn, there is still interest, specifically from Aston Villa – Villa manager Gerard Houllier said:
“I like him, he has always been in my thoughts.
“I saw Michael play a half of football, he still has the legs for it.”
With a newly active Dimitar Berbatov looking less and less like a greasy haired mannequin week by week, Owen may find himself slowly getting shut out of the starting eleven unless he seriously starts banging them in. Who better to get his career back on track then, than his old boss from the industrious Liverpool days? After all, Houllier did mentor Owen through his earlier years, during which the former England regular showed astounding promise.
