One West Ham United man believes the international break came at the right time for the club after a disappointing start to the Premier League campaign.
According to the club’s official website, Michail Antonio has revealed that he feels the break has come as a blessing and the players that did not travel for their respective nations matches have been able to make the most of the opportunity.
The winger believes the squad will benefit from the chance to get to work with the new players a lot more in training and sees it as an ideal time for a fresh start.
“International breaks can sometimes be a blessing and sometimes be a curse and, right now, I’d say it’s a blessing because it’s given ourselves a chance to clear our minds after the first part of the season,” he told the club’s official website.
“A few of the players have been away on international duty so we didn’t have the full squad here, but it’s given us an opportunity to some good work and get ready to make a fresh start.”
West Ham have had an abysmal start to life under Manuel Pellegrini in the Premier League, failing to pick up a single point in their first four games of the season.
However, Antonio would appear to be right as many of their players remained with the club during the international break, and with nine new players arriving at the London Stadium this summer at different times, the extra period to work together should only be beneficial to the squad.
The Hammers have a tough restart to the Premier League campaign with a match away to Everton, however, the extra work on the training pitch may have just given them a chance to get their first points of the campaign.
