Middlesbrough have dropped off the pace completely in recent times having failed to ensure consistency, with their play-off hopes slipping away.
Boro looked like challenging for an automatic promotion place towards the start of the current campaign, but things just haven’t worked out for Tony Pulis’ side in recent times.
Interestingly, it appears as if the club are eyeing a possible swap deal, as according to Team Talk (via Hartlepool Mail), Pulis could be prepared to swap Britt Assombalonga for Connor Wickham in January.
It’s thought that Pulis would be prepared to complete a swap deal with Premier League side Crystal Palace in order to secure Wickham’s signature.
Indeed, Assombalonga could be used as a make-weight in the deal as Middlesbrough look to bring in attacking reinforcements.
So, with Huddersfield Town winger Rajiv Van La Parra set to join, it appears as if Wickham may join him.
Britt Assombalonga, who is valued at £10.8 million (by Transfermarkt), has struggled to ensure a consistent flow of goals at the pinnacle of the attack this season, which has had a negative affect on their play-off push.
So, it comes as no surprise that Pulis could use the forward as make-weight, with Connor Wickham able to provide top level experience and plenty of potential.
