Middlesbrough’s Premier League journey lasted just one season this time out and their relegation back to the Championship has been confirmed.
It was too little, too late for Boro as they slowly started to pick up form towards the end of the campaign but it’s not knocked the spirit of some of their supporters here in the Tavern, who have been delighted to have another chance in the top-tier.
But with Aitor Karanka leaving following their relegation, attention now turns to the need to bring in a new leader in the coming days and weeks- an appointment that must be resolved sooner rather than later.
And that’s a sentiment that has been echoed by former Liverpool winger Stewart Downing, who wants things to be cleared up as soon as possible.
“I’m sure there are going to be a lot of changes over the next six weeks. The managerial situation needs clarifying so we can get on with it,” Downing told the Northern Echo.
“If it is a new manager then he is going to want time, if it is Steve Agnew then he probably has his own ideas in place already. He’s probably known for months what he wants to do,” he added.
Boro fans- agree with Downing? Does this need to be sorted sooner rather than later? Leave your thoughts down below!
